Contagious energy from Jenna Herbut

Jenna Herbut is the woman to know from Canada! She and her brother created the hugely popular Make It Productions, a design and craft fair in Western Canada. She started out creating and wholesaling her own fashion belts (called booty belts-hilarious! She talks more about that name in the interview) and as her company grew she grew right along with it. Jenna created just the type of event the SHE wanted to attend (hello-music, drinks, fun!) where she could meet her customers face to face. That makes her a woman after my own heart for sure! With the amazing success of Make It, she then went on the create her own online program, Make It University . In her program she teaces passionate and creative entrepreneurs everything she has learned along the way. After all, she says, “The craft business is a HUGE multi-billion dollar industry that is growing every year! Why not do what you love and get paid for it?” Her relaxed and approachable style makes her courses the perfect learning environment! She is quite a revolution herself!

Second video today as I work in my studio. So much of what Jenna said resonated with me as I am painting as I listen and thinking about wholesale on a large scale……..especially factoring time into price! Need to respond to a catalog I love about wholesale and making it work. I am gonna let this conversation seep in.

    Thank you both!

I’ve been eating these interviews up all day and all day yesterday! My friend Erica from Wisha Studios recommended your blog, and it’s been great inspiration to me as I’ve been working on completing an epic wholesale order (larger than I’ve ever made before). I don’t know too many creative professionals my age here where I live and so sometimes it feels isolating to live at home. There something about being able to hear other women talk about being creatively self employed that really encourages me!

Oh and specifically to Jenna, what you’re saying about finding it hard t find cool craft shows is spot on for me, especially since I live in an area that’s mostly retirees. I’m about to read our article on how to find shows that ROCK! :) (don’t get me wrong, I like the shows I participate in, but I’m often one of the youngest vendors there)
